Wind before snow...

by Derk Wynand

Wind before snow, then no wind
and snow falling, then fallen snow
the wind drives into corners.

Distant men, smaller than ants,
raise men's voices into the wind,
by wind made ant-size or
carried thus into silence.

Because they think they hear
their men calling to them,
the women step out
from their corners,
but it was only the snow,
snow in the wind.
