tomatoes

The rooster – brash and cocky.
The hens - coquettes and a half.
And Grandpa - sweaty and tired,
moves the barrel full with grape marc.
Grandmother has just finished washing
the dishes and now is watering the garden...
The water runs and brings back
the blurry memories of my grandparents
and even though I have forgotten their faces
I still can hear their voices in the night,
so familiar and coming from Beyond...
The Whitewashed kitchen
has just been cleaned.
Mom is cooking something tasty
and singing softly.
Outside, it is summer - blue and hot
The vines are getting heavy with the grapes.
There is a cricket playing a violin
in the fireplace.
The Garden - five tomato plants and
peppers just as many...
and sour cherries.

The Time will pass.
Someday,
I'll be the hostess
of this whitewashed kitchen
and a little girl named after me
will scatter some shoes at the front door...

Варосаната кухничка и двора...
Разхвърляни обувки пред вратата.
Градинка зеленчуци... Пет-шест корена пипер,
домати
и цветята.
Петелът - герест, ококорен,
кокошките - кокетки и половина.
И дядо - запотен и морен,
пренася джибрите за вино.
А баба мие на чешмата
чиниите от обед и полива
из двора. И тече водата...
И споменът ми се размива,
и вече съм забравила лицата им,
само долавям нощем гласовете,
така далечни и така познати...
Варосаната кухня свети
от чистота
и мама готви нещо,
и тихичко припява "Панаири",
навън е лято - синьо и горещо,
лозата, натежала...
Нежно свири
един щурец във старото огнище,
Градината - пет корена домати
и още толкова пипер.
И вишни.
Обувки, куп обувки на вратата...
И зная,
зная...
Времето ще мине.

Ще шетам
из варосаната кухня.
и палавница с мойто име
ще трупа пред вратата куп обувки...
