He implicates me in his talk – casting an invisible lasso...
He speaks serenely: his voice is opium, his words – ram bells.
And just upon entering, sweetly wading into the summer,
the shirt gives me a start: the top button is always done up.
The top button, I tell him, it stifles me -
it is not so cold at my place, remove the padlock!
You must be coming from some wintry country -
since olden times there they die of old age not of love...
He smiles. Steam is drifting in his eyes,
a drop of salt is creeping near his ear... Yet he says nothing.
Behind the top button two words have stopped in motion -
perhaps lost in the masquerade in the bosom.
How are you going to make love to me, so buttoned up?
I am naked, he stresses the word... As much as a Swede in his socks -
if I should start for it, I’ll pierce his throat -
I’ll bite off the top button with blood running!
Yet I caressed him – I am just like Mother Theresa...
Only as we take our leave I will undo the button.
You have grown up, my love, enough to love me,
yet you are too small, so sad it is, for me to live you.
